We had been chatting for almost two weeks, and everything seemed real. She was friendly, funny, and sounded genuinely interested in meeting up. When we finally agreed she’d come over, she said she didn’t have fare. I didn’t think much of it — I just wanted to meet her — so I sent her the money. She confirmed she got it and even said she was preparing to leave. After that, her phone went off and she blocked me. I tried calling, texting, even checking her social pages — nothing. That’s when it hit me I’d been played.

I thought he was genuine. We shared stories, laughed, even planned a future meeting. Then he said he was short on fare and promised to pay back once he arrived. I sent it right away. The moment the money went through, his tone changed. He stopped replying and disappeared from social media. It felt like being punched in the stomach — you start to question your own judgment. I’m reporting this so maybe the next person won’t fall for the same lies.

How does it work?

  • Report for free

If you’ve already fallen victim or spotted suspicious behavior, you can submit a report anonymously or with your name. Just describe what happened — such as being asked for phone number, amount, date and some details. Every report helps others avoid the same trap and builds a community of awareness and accountability.

  • Search

Start by typing M-Pesa number you want to send to in the search bar. The system will check across submitted reports to show if that number has been flagged before. You can instantly see if others have complained, shared warnings, or confirmed a similar experience. A KSh 20 fee applies for every search — no result is still a result. No result found is a good result.

  • Learn & Tell Others

Every experience — good or bad — can help someone else make a safer choice. When you learn how scams work and share what you know, you become part of the solution. Awareness spreads faster than scams do — but only if we talk about it.
